Iconography

Developing a brand is all about consistency of messaging and experiences. When creating a map product that’s used by the public for navigating, iconography, uniformity, and easy comprehension is crucial in ensuring a smooth New York Road Runners event day experience.

Consistency is a key

New York Road Runners hosts 50+ events per year that entertain adults and youth in the New York City region. Between weekly to marquee races, regular community movement initiatives, and virtual events, participants, staff, and volunteers need to know where to meet up, what amenities to expect along the route, and even what traffic flow to expect.

While the maps are always hosted on their website, they are also used at race expos to explain course strategy, within event guides to provide direction for runners and spectators, and within mobile apps for participant tracking.

In the community, maps are used to provide way finding and interactive experiences. The more runners and walkers are acquainted with their surroundings, the more likely they are to feel comfortable and confident in their activities.
