The Alliance for Youth Action empowers young people to grow as leaders and engage in democracy. Whereas many people influence their government only once a year while voting, AYA’s team works year-round to enact change and educate for the future. Their annual reports are a compilation of their accomplishments, and 2020’s was fully digital for the first time due to the COVID pandemic. Inspired by other organizations’ microsite reports and knowing that they had a number of stories to tell, we suggested a Wordpress template site to use an economical framework that would also be robust enough to showcase all the content.
Highly visual
All of AYA’s reports typically begin with a letter from the executive director. To make the intro more visual and minimize text, I pitched a video using storyboards and art directed the animation to match the tone of the report.
Leading the way
Since previous printed reports were 40+ pages long, I maximized the use of accordions and toggles to create sections that guide readers’ attention and hide content until it’s ready to be digested. Additional elements like animated counters help add interactivity to the site.
Although the report was not physically distributed, the client requested a PDF version. Repurposing the microsite’s vertical orientation, I organized the report as portrait-oriented single pages.
